Requirements

  • Body controller: BDC3 or newer
  • Head unit: MGU (iDrive 7), ID8 or ID8.5
  • Engine: petrol only — no diesel
  • Gearbox: automatic only

If your car does not meet all four requirements, this will not work.

How BMW Remote Engine Start works

Three presses of the lock button on your original BMW key starts the engine remotely. The car stays locked while the climate control preconditions the cabin, and the engine switches itself off after a set period.
