Unlock the full potential of your BMW with our Apple CarPlay Activation - USB Coding solution. This version simplifies the process, requiring only a USB drive.

Here's how to get started: Sit in your BMW and navigate to Navigation Maps. Press the Options button and go to Settings. Select Position & Version History > Version Information.

Now, here's the key: If your software version starts with P, Q, R, S, U, V, W, X, or Y, after the wording NBTEvo_ unfortunately, USB coding won't work. You'll need to choose the cable coding version.

For versions starting with any letter preceding P (in alphabetical order), both USB and cable coding are applicable.

To fully enjoy Apple CarPlay, you'll need to install a WiFi antenna. The installation is a breeze - it's a plug-and-play process. Simply connect it to the back of your unit for seamless connectivity.

Once you've determined the coding method, connect your iPhone to your BMW. Enjoy iOS apps on your factory iDrive display, including Google Maps, iTunes, Siri, and more. Upgrade your BMW with Apple CarPlay Activation - USB Coding and stay connected on the road.

Worked perfectly on my 2018 i3

My 2018 i3 happened to have the O version of the headunit, so I was able to use the USB method to activate Carplay. This worked flawlessly. The process needs two reboots of iDrive. First you start the car with USB stick installed, then you reboot iDrive to initialize the install. On my car I couldn't manually reboot iDrive, which is a quirk with some BMWs. So I had to shut off the car and wait 16 minutes for the car to turn off completely. When iDrive reboots you wait for about 1-2 minutes and then the screen turns blue and the Carplay activation script runs. After it's done you need to reboot iDrive again, and now you're done. In my case I had to wait 16 minutes again after turning off the car, but this gave me time to look if BMW had installed a wifi antenna from factory, which luckily they had, so my car was fully prepared for Carplay when manufactured and they had just software locked it. Doing the Carplay activation was easier then installing BMWs own software updates over USB. It just worked on first attempt. Carplay over Wifi transfers audio lossless, so music now sounds noticeably better than over bluetooth. If your car supports it, recommended.
